Design Engineer

• Sit at the exact intersection of pixel-perfect design and high-velocity engineering — designing solutions and shipping the code yourself. • Own quality across the product, identifying and fixing UX papercuts that make the difference between a tool and a craft. • Build complex, reusable UI components including custom filters, date-time pickers, and a growing component library. • Create and maintain a design system that other developers can use without needing a manual. • Use AI tools such as Claude and Cursor to augment your workflow, step into the backend when needed, and focus time on ambitious work. • Live in a tight feedback loop, prioritising user experience above all else in a natively remote, async-first team.

• Know React inside and out — Next.js or Remix experience is a strong plus. • Be a Tailwind CSS wizard with a solid understanding of browser support quirks. • Speak both designer intuition — typography, whitespace, visual hierarchy, colour theory — and developer logic — DOM, component lifecycles, performance constraints. • Have a portfolio, Twitter, or Dribbble that demonstrates you can build beautiful things, and be able to articulate why one design works better than another. • Have a track record of shipping fast without breaking things. • Have a natural bias for user experience and care how programming results in lovable products. • Be comfortable stepping into the backend with AI tooling to get the job done.

• Have experience building or maintaining a design system or component library at scale. • Have experience with Next.js or Remix specifically. • Have experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to accelerate frontend development. • Have experience building developer-facing products or tools.

• Own UX quality across the PostHog platform — catch small issues others miss and treat every interaction as an opportunity to delight users. • Build complex, reusable, accessible, and performant UI components. • Create and evolve a design system that reduces technical debt and empowers other developers. • Ship features fast using AI tools to augment design, frontend, and backend work. • Collaborate asynchronously with the Platform UX team within a remote-first engineering culture. • Iterate quickly in a tight user feedback loop, always prioritising experience over perfection.
