Overview

About Cloudflare

Cloudflare helps build a better Internet. They make applications and networks faster and more secure for organisations everywhere, with a network spanning over 330 cities across more than 120 countries and blocking billions of threats daily. Matthew Prince, Michelle Zatlyn, and Lee Holloway started Cloudflare back in 2009, took it public on the NYSE in 2019 (ticker: NET), and have since grown it to over $2.1 billion in annual revenue. Roughly one in five websites on the Internet runs on Cloudflare.

Why Join

Our Take

We have used Cloudflare products ourselves, including Turnstile to protect apps from bots, so we know first-hand how solid their tech is, and that matters when you are thinking about where to work. With over $2.1 billion in annual revenue, 34% growth in Q4 2025, and $4 billion+ in cash reserves, Cloudflare is financially rock-solid and still growing fast. They operate one of the largest networks in the world, sit in front of roughly one in five websites, and are pushing hard into AI infrastructure and the agentic web. The scale of what they do is genuinely impressive; so many of the apps and services you use every day depend on Cloudflare without you even knowing it. Across Glassdoor, employees consistently highlight the great products, friendly and smart colleagues, positive working environment, and genuine flexible hybrid and work-from-home arrangements. They also offer unlimited paid time off and have a real focus on diversity and inclusion. We should be upfront, though: the Glassdoor rating sits at 3.4, and reviews are mixed. While the culture and people are widely praised, compensation competitiveness and slow promotion processes are recurring pain points. However, if you want to solve hard, Internet-scale problems at a company whose products you probably already rely on, Cloudflare is a brilliant place to do that.

Mission

Company Mission

Help build a better Internet.

Problem They Solve

The Internet was not designed to be secure, fast, or reliable by default. Organisations face growing threats from cyberattacks, data breaches, and performance bottlenecks, while the rise of AI and agentic applications is creating entirely new infrastructure demands. Traditional solutions are fragmented, expensive, and difficult to manage.

Who their customers are

Cloudflare serves millions of organisations worldwide, from individual developers and small businesses to Fortune 500 enterprises. Over 4,200 customers contribute more than $100,000 in annualised revenue each. Customers include major brands across every sector, as well as nonprofits and governments protected through initiatives like Project Galileo and the Athenian Project.

Long-term vision

"The shift toward AI and agents represents a fundamental re-platforming of the Internet that's driving demand across Cloudflare's services. If agents are the new users of the web, Cloudflare is the platform they run on and the network they pass through. This creates a virtuous flywheel: more agents drive more code to Cloudflare Workers, which fuels demand for our performance, security, and networking services. We were built for this moment and the rise of the Agentic Internet." - Matthew Prince

Team

What Employees Say

Leadership

Matthew Prince co-founded Cloudflare in 2009 and has served as CEO ever since. He studied English and Computer Science at Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut), got his law degree from the University of Chicago, and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Michelle Zatlyn, who co-founded Cloudflare with Prince and Lee Holloway, serves as President and COO. She studied chemistry at McGill before earning her MBA at Harvard, where she and Prince first crossed paths. The two of them still serve as Co-Chairs of the Board today, which tells you the founders are still fully committed to building the company long-term.

Founder-led?

Yes, this company is still led by its founder(s).

Do I Feel Safe at Work?

Cloudflare has built a culture around what they call "Cloudflare Capabilities", which outline the behaviours they value and reference when measuring success and giving feedback. They have a strong network of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including Afroflare, Proudflare, Womenflare, Latinflare, Desiflare, and more. They are signatories of the UK Tech Talent Charter and the German Diversity Charter. Named among the Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces for three consecutive years (2022-2024). That said, some Glassdoor reviews mention that experience varies significantly by team, and there are concerns about CEO micromanagement and frequent organisational restructuring.

Work Reality

Onboarding

Cloudflare takes onboarding seriously, and new joiners are immediately connected to their teams, cross-functional partners, and a cohort of fellow new starters. The company has historically been in-office but has shifted to a hybrid model, offering distributed and in-office opportunities across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Their London office is at County Hall/The Riverside Building on Belvedere Road, near Waterloo.

What Employees Say

"The office culture is diverse, and the people are genuinely nice. Cloudflare builds great products with cutting-edge innovation, offers flexible working, and provides all the equipment and support you need to do your best work from home."

How Success is Measured

Cloudflare evaluates performance on both "what" you deliver (results) and "how" you work (behaviours aligned with their Capabilities framework). Reviews consider both your outcomes and your collaboration and contributions to the team.

Cloudflare team collaboration

Communication Style

This is what we love about Cloudflare: They are very transparent in their commincation. For example, they run weekly CEO-led company meetings where anyone can share updates on their work. They also host multiple Innovation Weeks throughout the year, including Birthday Week, Security Week, and Developer Week, where teams across the company come together to publicly ship new products and features. The company hires for hybrid, distributed, and in-office roles across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

Growth

Promotions

Career growth is available, but multiple reviews mention that the promotion process can be rigid and slow. The company has grown rapidly, creating new opportunities, but advancement often depends on your team and manager.

L&D Support

One of the biggest draws is the sheer breadth of technology you get exposed to. Cloudflare operates at Internet scale across security, networking, AI, edge computing, and developer platforms. The company also invests heavily in its public engineering blog and runs multiple Innovation Weeks throughout the year, which give teams a deadline to ship and share new work. However, multiple Glassdoor reviews flag that formal professional development budgets and structured learning programmes are lacking. One engineer noted there is no learning budget, and another said the CEO expects employees to fund their own growth.

Internal Mobility

Internal transfers do happen; some employees highlight opportunities to move into different roles and teams. However, it is not consistent across the company. BDR reviews, for example, note that there is no clear scheme in place for moving between roles or departments.

Average Tenure

No official data available, but given the company's rapid growth and mixed Glassdoor reviews on career progression, tenure likely varies a lot by team.

Frequently asked questions

Have more questions? Get in touch with Frederic, Founder of RemoteCorgi.

Does Cloudflare offer remote work options?
Cloudflare offers a flexible hybrid model. Depending on your role and team, you may work in a combination of remote and in-office. They have offices globally, including in London (near Waterloo), and hire for hybrid, distributed, and in-office roles across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
What is the Trustpilot rating about?
Cloudflare's low Trustpilot rating (1.5) is largely driven by end users frustrated by its security features blocking access to websites, as well as complaints about slow customer support and domain registration issues. Most of these reviewers are not Cloudflare customers; they are everyday Internet users encountering bot protection on third-party sites. It is not a reflection of the employer experience.
What benefits does Cloudflare provide to UK employees?
UK employees receive comprehensive health insurance, a regional pension plan, up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, flexible unlimited time off, life insurance, mental health support, and an Employee Stock Participation Plan. They also get 3 additional volunteering days per year.
What is the culture like at Cloudflare?
Cloudflare has an ambitious, mission-driven culture with smart and technically curious colleagues. The company is known for shipping quickly and innovating at scale. Employee Resource Groups are well-established and diverse. That said, experience can vary by team: some employees praise the collaborative culture, while others note that the rapid pace can lead to burnout and that promotion processes can feel slow. The Glassdoor rating sits at 3.4, with 52% of employees recommending it to a friend.
