About the role

💼 What you will do

• Lead Monzo's Controls Testing team within the Risk & Control function, embedding improved risk-based controls monitoring across the business — on a 6-month fixed-term basis. • Drive a programme of controls effectiveness testing, automation through Data Analytics and AI, and improved monitoring of Monzo's control performance. • Lead the initiative to define the optimal operating model for controls testing and monitoring as Monzo scales. • Use commercial awareness to solve controls-related problems with the greatest business impact. • London or fully remote within the UK, with ad hoc meetings in London. Immediate availability or a short notice period is preferred.

📋 Job Requirements

• Solid grounding in risk and control processes. • Strategic leader with experience leading initiatives to improve adoption of technology and data solutions, including Data Analytics and AI. • Experience leading a team of highly qualified specialists in the field of Assurance. • Commercially minded, able to put controls into business perspective and communicate findings clearly to business partners. • Comfortable getting hands-on with testing and building automation solutions as well as thinking strategically. • Self-starter who proactively identifies issues and opportunities without being told to. • Strong relationship builder, able to work effectively with colleagues across all three lines of defence.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Experience driving automation of controls testing using data analytics or AI tooling. • Background in a regulated financial services or fintech environment. • Familiarity with operating across three lines of defence in a banking or payments context.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Lead a programme to embed improved, risk-based controls monitoring across Monzo. • Define the optimal operating model for controls testing and monitoring, improving scalability as the business grows. • Lead a team of specialists delivering excellent service to users of control monitoring outputs from across the three lines of defence. • Deliver agreed control testing plans and report findings to stakeholders, helping them scope improvement activities. • Work with Risk Data and Platform teams to improve actionable insights and drive a culture of control consciousness. • Use commercial awareness to understand and solve controls-related problems with the greatest business impact.
