About the role

💼 What you will do

• Build the next generation of generative video technology, pushing the boundaries of AI-driven storytelling. • Help hundreds of millions of Canva users go from idea to finished video with tools that feel genuinely magical. • Develop and ship cutting-edge multimodal video generation models as part of one of the most exciting product frontiers in AI. • Partner closely with Research Scientists to translate theory into practical, production-grade applications. • Fully remote role within the UK.

📋 Job Requirements

• Deep experience developing generative AI models — diffusion models, GANs, or transformers — with real-world application knowledge. • Successfully managed and optimised large-scale distributed training across hundreds of GPUs, understanding the infrastructure trade-offs involved. • Strong understanding of ML principles, with hands-on experience using PyTorch to develop and optimise performant models. • Solid engineering practices: clean code, rigorous testing, CI/CD workflows, and robust observability in production. • Comfortable with ambiguity and end-to-end ownership of complex technical initiatives. • Clear communicator who collaborates with kindness and values knowledge-sharing across teams.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Experience porting experimental research code into scalable, production-grade systems. • Background working on multimodal generative AI spanning text, image, or video. • Experience investigating and resolving production incidents through root cause analysis.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Partner with Research Scientists on multimodal generative AI research, translating theory into practical applications. • Port experimental Python code into scalable, testable, production-grade solutions with performance benchmarks. • Design, develop, and implement innovative model architectures and algorithms for multimodal design generation. • Build sustainable ML pipelines supporting continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring of generative models in production. • Optimise and scale models for efficiency, latency, and throughput across large distributed systems. • Enhance and maintain high-quality datasets and annotations to fuel multimodal learning. • Investigate and resolve production incidents through root cause analysis and sustainable fixes. • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across Canva to build aligned, technically feasible, high-impact solutions.
