Staff Product Engineer

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Lead 2–3 high-leverage company bets per year as a hands-on Staff IC, operating at a scope that cuts across teams and directly shapes company direction — reporting to the CTO. • Own critical technical domains such as front-end platform, long-running workflows with Temporal, agentic-AI core, or data modelling, setting and evolving the patterns and primitives other engineers build on. • Design paved roads for a small, fast team: stable contracts, libraries, and workflows that prevent recurring problems and keep the codebase simple, understandable, and teachable. • Multiply the output of other engineers through mentoring, embedding with stuck teams, and delivering code reviews that both catch issues and teach lasting patterns. • Work office-first from Farringdon at least three days per week, with flexibility when deep-focus work is needed.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring demonstrated experience leading fuzzy, cross-functional bets — pulling together product, ops, and engineering to ship something that measurably moved a metric. • Bring strong full-stack TypeScript expertise across React, Node, PostgreSQL, and ideally Temporal or comparable long-running orchestration tooling. • Think in systems and primitives — contracts, workflows, failure modes, and observability — not just features. • Show a track record of mentoring and growing other engineers, with concrete examples of engineers you've unblocked or levelled up. • Bring comfort operating in ambiguity: turning messy, fuzzy problems into clear plans, then shipping small end-to-end slices every one to two weeks.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring experience building agentic or LLM-powered systems that act on behalf of users in production environments. • Bring experience designing and rolling out orchestration patterns for long-running workflows including error states, timeouts, logging, and SLOs. • Bring experience owning a front-end platform including routing, data fetching, error handling, and state management patterns at scale. • Bring experience working with data tooling such as Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, Amplitude, or Segment.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Own 2–3 high-leverage bets per year, defining the problem, the metrics that matter, constraints, and a concrete technical approach from messy reality. • Ship small, end-to-end slices every one to two weeks so real members feel the benefit often, with a clear before/after to measure against. • Set and evolve the patterns and primitives other engineers rely on, keeping them simple, understandable, and teachable across a growing team. • Spot recurring problems and create stable contracts, libraries, and workflows so others don't reinvent them; right-size reliability and observability for a ~10-engineer team. • Create written clarity around every major initiative — one canonical, skimmable doc that Product, Ops, and Engineering can rely on.
