Backend Engineer, Ingestion (Europe/UK)

• Build and own the ingestion pipeline that processes tens of billions of events per month at PostHog — with ambitions to add another zero to that figure soon. • Thrive on the challenges of designing elegant, efficient systems that handle terabytes of data with full reliability and data integrity. • Own the entire service end-to-end — no committees or overzealous PMs, just you and the pipeline. • Fully remote role within EMEA, GMT 0 to GMT +2 timezone.

• Experience working with highly scalable, event-driven distributed systems. • Experience developing multi-tenant SaaS products. • Experience with Node.js, Go, Rust, or similar languages. • Experience with Kafka and PostgreSQL, Redis, or similar systems at scale. • Comfortable shipping changes quickly without breaking things. • Carried a pager and dealt with production incidents. • Comfortable provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure. • Experience with benchmarking, profiling, observability systems, and practices.

• Experience with customer data platforms or similar data analytics systems. • Strong Rust experience — PostHog uses Rust in the hot path for high-throughput processing. • Experience with ClickHouse or S3-backed data systems at scale.

• Develop the infrastructure to capture, process reliably, and provide data to PostHog's product analytics, feature flags, CDP, and other platform components. • Own the ingestion pipeline end-to-end, making architectural and tooling decisions from first principles. • Build open-source software that handles billions of events per month in the hot path. • Ship changes frequently, confidently, and in small steps. • Re-evaluate technological choices as data volumes grow, selecting the best tools for each problem.
