Senior Java Software Engineer, Customer Services

• Play a key role in Starling's Customer Service Engineering Group, building tools that help customers help themselves and give Operations teams the best solutions to support customers quickly and effectively. • Deliver robust and scalable Java code in a cloud-native, distributed service architecture, releasing to production 15–20 times per day. • Work in a flat structure with real ownership, from building and designing through to sharing knowledge and continuously improving processes. • Hybrid role based in London or Cardiff.

• At least 7 years of commercial Java experience. • Strong understanding of delivering robust, scalable code with best practices, automated testing, and continuous deployment. • Comfortable working in a cloud-native environment — Starling uses AWS and GCP. • Commitment to clean coding, simple solutions, and finding elegant answers to difficult technical problems.

• Experience with AWS and PostgreSQL. • Familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, or Grafana. • Background working in highly regulated financial services or fintech engineering environments.

• Build solid, scalable solutions that let customers help themselves and easily discover what Starling offers. • Develop and maintain internal tooling for Operations teams to resolve customer issues quickly and effectively. • Write clean Java code with automated tests and continuous deployment as standard. • Collaborate across teams and share knowledge in an open, supportive engineering culture. • Contribute to a codebase that ships code 15–20 times per day in a cloud-native, distributed services architecture.
