About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join the Stream Processing team within Wise's Data Squad, providing the tooling and infrastructure that allows Wise to process transfers in real time. • Power validation, fraud detection, and AML checks by enabling services to make calculations and decisions in milliseconds. • Design, architect, implement, and operate stream processing systems on AWS, while helping product engineers adopt tooling and best practices. • Sustain platform growth by continuously iterating on services with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use. • Hybrid role based in London.

📋 Job Requirements

• Experience with Flink and/or Kafka Streams. • Experience building production code with Java and Spring. • Experience with infrastructure automation tools. • Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale. • Strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and reusable design. • Able to analyse complex requirements and deliver simple, scalable solutions.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Familiarity with Apache Iceberg for data lakehouse architectures. • Experience with Kubernetes operators. • Background providing platform engineering support to product teams — laying down best practices and rules for stream processing pipelines.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Design, architect, implement, and operate stream processing systems on AWS. • Build and support tooling to create pipelines used for real-time decision making in the milliseconds range. • Help product engineers use stream processing tooling and systems, establishing best practices and guidelines. • Enable data movement into Wise's data lake, allowing product teams and analysts to make data-driven decisions. • Continuously iterate on services with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use as the team scales.
