About the role

💼 What you will do

• A career-defining launchpad role at Engine by Starling — the SaaS banking technology platform that powers Starling and is now available to banks and financial institutions worldwide. • Start in Core Banking, learning the fundamentals of ledgers and accounting, before pivoting to support domains such as payments, savings, and lending as the business scales. • Not a fixed-domain position — if you're highly adaptable, love to learn, and want to understand how a modern bank truly functions from the inside out, this role is for you. • Hybrid working from one of Engine's London offices.

📋 Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a product, engineering, data, business analysis, or highly analytical role, ideally in a fast-paced environment. • Comfortable working in ambiguity — the starting point is clear but the long-term path is undefined, and you thrive on that. • Able to write clean, detailed, unambiguous user stories and requirements with explicit acceptance criteria. • Understands the basic architectural stack of a product area and enjoys getting into technical details with engineers. • Competent with or ready to quickly master product analytics tools such as Mixpanel, Amplitude, or PostHog. • Clear communicator who can explain the what, how, and why behind a feature backlog to an engineering and design triad. • Highly dependable, delivers assigned tasks on time, and actively seeks feedback with visible behavioural changes.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Prior experience or a strong baseline understanding of FinTech or a regulated banking and lending environment. • Engineering background, technical experience, or deep technical curiosity. • A relevant bachelor's degree with a foundation in Maths or STEM subjects.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Learn Core Banking fundamentals, including ledgers and accounting, as the starting point of the role. • Manage the product backlog for your area, writing detailed user stories and acceptance criteria. • Work closely with engineers and designers in a triad to deliver well-scoped product features. • Use product analytics tools to track feature usage and leverage quantitative data alongside user feedback to make trade-offs. • Flag blockers early to your manager and communicate clearly across the team. • Pivot to support other domains — including payments, savings, or lending — as business needs evolve. • Actively seek feedback, take structured notes, and demonstrate visible development over time.
