Senior Platform Engineer

• Design and build the foundational platform services that every Kagi product depends on: auth and identity, billing, configuration, and shared internal infrastructure. • Own the kagi-configuration service — the shared settings layer that all Kagi products read from. • Build compliance and trust tooling for markets including the EU, UK, and Australia. • Small, deliberate team that values correctness, good API contracts, and systems that hold up under pressure. • Fully remote, any location.

• 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience in production environments. • Proficiency in one or more of Go, Rust, or Crystal — Kagi's primary languages. • Experience designing and operating distributed services with well-defined boundaries, including safely splitting monoliths. • Strong understanding of auth and identity systems: OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SSO, token validation, and their failure modes. • Comfort with data migration at scale — moved users or records between systems without losing data or trust. • Discipline to write internal services others can depend on: good API design, useful error messages, clear documentation.

• Experience contributing to developer tooling or open-source infrastructure projects. • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements across EU, UK, or Australian markets. • Experience operating auth or identity infrastructure at scale across multiple products.

• Own the kagi-configuration service: the shared configuration and settings layer that all Kagi products read from. • Build and maintain identity infrastructure: OIDC integration, user migration pipelines, SSO, and MFA enforcement. • Build compliance and trust tooling: harm reporting and regulatory tooling required to operate in the EU, UK, Australia, and other markets. • Define internal platform APIs and service contracts that product teams can build reliably on top of. • Contribute to developer tooling and open-source scaffolding to improve engineering velocity across the organisation.
