About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join around 400 engineers at Monzo building an in-house banking platform that millions of people use every day. • Work on everything from customer-facing products to underlying infrastructure, payments, financial crime, and data. • Solve interesting distributed systems challenges in a product-led, data-informed engineering culture. • Write resilient, maintainable backend code using Go, with Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS. • London or fully remote anywhere in the UK, with no mandated office attendance.

📋 Job Requirements

• Strong experience working on the backend of a technology product. • Product mindset — cares about customer outcomes and wants to make data-informed decisions. • Comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity. • Interest in distributed systems and writing resilient software. • Some experience with strongly-typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Prior experience with Go specifically. • Familiarity with Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, or Docker. • Background working in a regulated or financial services engineering environment.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that power Monzo's banking platform and customer-facing products. • Write application code in Go, contributing to a resilient and scalable distributed system. • Work with Cassandra for persistent data storage, Kafka for asynchronous messaging, and Kubernetes/Docker for service scheduling. • Collaborate across disciplines — product, design, data, security, and operations — to solve meaningful problems at scale. • Contribute to a codebase that touches payments, financial crime, customer operations, and infrastructure.
