Platform Engineer

• Build and centrally manage the cloud infrastructure that underpins all technology at Monzo, running components like Kubernetes and Envoy across AWS and GCP. • Help other platform teams succeed by abstracting away complexity and enabling them to solve real customer problems. • Work across both platform and infrastructure engineering and software and backend engineering. • Support Monzo scaling from 10 to 20 million customers and expanding globally.

• Have significant professional experience in software engineering demonstrated by writing, testing, and deploying robust backend services using strongly typed languages. • Have hands-on experience working with AWS and/or GCP and be proficient with Kubernetes. • Be naturally inclined to solve problems through automation and have experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform. • Be deeply curious about systems and enjoy diving deep to investigate complex issues and understand how modern distributed applications fail and scale. • Be excited to build a platform that enables success for everyone at Monzo, focusing on reliability, performance, and developer experience. • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced team that deals with ambiguity and evolving requirements.

• Have experience with Go for application and platform service development. • Have experience with Envoy Proxy or similar service mesh technologies. • Have experience managing Kubernetes clusters at scale. • Have experience working across both AWS and GCP in a multi-cloud setup. • Have experience with infrastructure migrations or high-scale traffic management.

• Enhance and maintain foundational tools and systems across the platform. • Work hands-on with Kubernetes clusters, AWS infrastructure, and configuration management using Terraform. • Integrate and manage various open-source components to provide robust, scalable primitives for engineering teams. • Design and implement backend services such as APIs and controllers that provide a simplified, self-service experience for other engineers. • Develop software for complex projects like infrastructure migrations, high-scale traffic management, or security tooling.
