Software Engineer, ML Projects

• Join the ML Projects team at the forefront of bringing cutting-edge machine learning to the core of Starling's banking platform. • Work with engineers and data scientists to design, implement, and maintain ML-powered features — from building new capabilities from scratch to integrating models into the core platform. • Design robust infrastructure and pipelines, or discover completely new approaches to complex problems with real autonomy. • Empower yourself to take ownership and drive solutions from ideation to launch in a flat, fast-moving structure. • Hybrid role based in London, Southampton, Cardiff, or Manchester.

• Proven track record of delivering robust, multi-technology applications within an enterprise environment. • Strong software engineering fundamentals — clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing, and continuous deployment. • Comfortable working across a polyglot tech stack with Python and/or Java as primary languages. • Self-driven with the ability to identify challenges and collaborate across teams to deliver impactful solutions.

• Experience building and deploying complex Python applications in production. • Hands-on experience with generative AI and LLMs. • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or GCP, including Terraform, Prometheus, or Grafana.

• Design, implement, and maintain ML-powered features, from brand new capabilities through to integrating models into the core banking platform. • Build robust infrastructure and data pipelines to support machine learning systems in production. • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers across teams to deliver impactful solutions across a range of technologies. • Take ownership of solutions from ideation through to launch, identifying challenges and driving them to resolution. • Contribute to a codebase shipping code 15–20 times per day in a cloud-native, distributed services architecture.
