Regional Research Economist, Economic Research

• Collaborate with governments, academia, industry, and civil society across EMEA to measure and understand AI's effects on the economy and explore research-driven policy interventions. • Contribute to the development and expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index, including country and regional-specific analysis, using frontier methods in econometrics, machine learning, and structural estimation. • Design and lead empirical research on AI's economic effects — spanning labour markets, productivity, task transformation, economic inequality, and aggregate economic trajectories. • Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, policy think tanks, and research partners as the primary point of contact for economic impact work in your region. • Translate research insights into actionable recommendations for policy discussions and publish findings through research papers, policy briefs, and presentations.

• Hold a PhD in Economics. • Have a strong track record of empirical research combining novel data sources with economic theory or implementing frontier methods in causal inference and machine learning. • Have demonstrated experience working in and relevant relationships across the EMEA region. • Have experience relevant to studying AI's impact on the economy including labour market analysis, task-based approaches to technological transformation, and large-scale data analysis. • Have technical skills including proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar tools for large-scale data analysis. • Have demonstrated ability to lead complex research projects from conception to publication and communicate technical findings to diverse audiences.

• Have experience with large language models for social science research. • Have experience with experimental and quasi-experimental methods for causal inference. • Have experience with macroeconomic modelling, time series forecasting, or agent-based modelling. • Have existing relationships across academic, policy, and industry communities in EMEA.

• Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, policy think tanks, and research partners across the region. • Advance research collaborations answering country or regional-specific economic impact questions. • Make fundamental contributions to the development and expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index. • Develop new methodological approaches for studying AI's impact on labour markets, productivity, inequality, and industry disruption. • Work cross-functionally with technical teams to improve measurement infrastructure and data collection. • Amplify external engagement through research publications, policy briefs, and presentations to diverse stakeholders.
