Software Development Engineer II, Data Platform

• Build and deliver internal data tools, pipelines, and platforms that help grow the foundation of the Mapbox Platform, supporting 300+ engineers worldwide. • Work on batch and streaming ingestion systems that ingest terabytes of data per day — including the events pipeline collecting 100 billion GPS points daily that powers live traffic and Mapbox Movement. • Simplify and strengthen Mapbox's processes and tools for designing, deploying, and monitoring data processing workloads on AWS. • Operate as part of a globally distributed, remote-first, async-first team that believes in iterative process experimentation. • Fully remote role based in the UK.

• 5+ years of industry experience. • Experience designing, building, and maintaining internal tools and services on AWS. • Experience with some or all of the tech stack: Node.js, Python, Spark, Airflow, and AWS (Lambda, EMR, ECS, and Kinesis). • Experience with distributed systems at scale. • Track record of building self-service, high-quality tools for developers with a customer-driven mindset. • Autonomous and proactive in driving work to completion in the face of ambiguity. • Thoughtful integration of AI into design, development, and decision-making workflows.

• Experience with petabyte-scale ETL systems or large-scale data processing pipelines. • Familiarity with managed Spark environments such as Amazon EMR. • Background building developer-facing internal platforms or data infrastructure products.

• Support internal Mapbox engineers by building data infrastructure and tooling that addresses their needs. • Work on batch and streaming ingestion systems that process terabytes of data per day. • Simplify and strengthen processes and tools for designing, deploying, and monitoring data processing and querying workloads on AWS. • Promote a culture of operational excellence through testing, monitoring, and on-call support for service health. • Document work and decision-making processes, and lead presentations and discussions in an accessible way. • Uphold a culture of collaboration, transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.
