Core Product Lead
About the role
💼 What you will do
• Own product strategy across Core — the division behind Postgres, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and the platform substrate they all run on. • Manage the PMs who run each product, set the bets that decide what Core becomes over the next 12–18 months, and make the cross-product calls no individual PM can. • Report to the Head of Product, serving 7,000,000+ developers from indie hackers to enterprises in regulated industries. • Work fully remotely and async by default, making decisions in writing and running your team through written artefacts.
📋 Job Requirements
• Have managed product managers before, ideally at the Director level or equivalent — hiring, firing, running performance cycles, coaching through promotions, and holding a team together through hard quarters. • Bring 8+ years of product management experience on developer tools or infrastructure, or an ex-founder background with the same depth. • Be technical enough to read an architecture doc, follow a design discussion, and ask the right questions of engineers building distributed systems, databases, or cloud platforms. • Have shipped in the Postgres, database, or developer-infrastructure space — owning products in this category, not just working next to them. • Be biased toward speed, preferring to ship something imperfect and learn rather than spend another sprint refining a spec. • Use AI tools to compress slow parts of the job (research, drafting, synthesising customer feedback, reviewing PRDs) so more time goes to judgement calls and people management. • Work async by default, making decisions in writing and moving things forward without filling the calendar with meetings.
🌟 Nice-to-have
• Bring familiarity with open-source go-to-market where the product, community, and commercial offering reinforce each other. • Have experience as a founder or co-founder with depth in developer tools or infrastructure. • Demonstrate a track record of developing PMs who went on to strong subsequent roles.
🎯 Responsibilities
• Build and develop the Core PM team — manage PMs across Platform, Databases, Auth, Storage, Functions, and Realtime, hire into open seats, coach existing PMs, and run performance cycles. • Set the product strategy across Core, deciding where the bets are and how the products reinforce each other, defending that agenda with founders and engineering leads. • Make cross-product prioritisation calls — what Auth ships affects Databases, what Realtime needs from Postgres shapes the database roadmap. • Coach PMs on the craft: customer evidence, problem definition, prioritisation, success metrics, and written communication. • Sit in on customer calls and roadmap reviews, read docs and PRDs your PMs write, and give direct feedback on what's working and what isn't. • Represent Core in leadership — speak to the state of every Core product in board meetings, customer escalations, or strategy reviews without pulling in the individual PM every time.
